Founded in 1977 by Ramon S. Chua, Matutum Hardware began as a small, independent shop in Polomolok, South Cotabato. With a dream and limited capital, Ramon built the business around his values: hard work, discipline, and exceptional service. What started as a humble store soon became a trusted name in the community.
Our Family Story
In 1980, Ramon married Edna, and together they raised five children while growing their business. The couple expanded into a grocery line and opened a second branch in General Santos City. Through the ‘80s and ‘90s, the Chuas earned a reputation for reliability and community support.
Overcoming Adversity
The Asian Financial Crisis in the late ‘90s forced the difficult closure of the Polomolok store. Focusing on the General Santos branch, the family persevered—paying off debts and rebuilding with resilience. During this time, eldest daughter Mae sustained the family’s spirit from abroad, providing unwavering moral support.
Expansion & Legacy
2012: Reopened the Polomolok branch—an emotional and strategic comeback.
2014: Launched Purok Malakas branch, expanding reach and accessibility.
2019: Opened Lagao branch, reinforcing the business’s new chapter under the second generation.
The Chua sons now actively manage each store, honoring the founders’ vision while bringing fresh energy and innovation.
